Did you know?
According to the World Health Organisation, every year 800,000 people take their own life (one life every 40 seconds) with many more who attempt to do so. One of the main causes of suicide is isolation and the feeling of being misunderstood and alone in the world.
In 2018 The Rt Hon Theresa May appointed Jackie Doyle-Price MP as the world’s first ‘Suicide Prevention Minister’. The appointment coincided with World Mental Health day as the UK hosted the first ever global mental health summit.
The post has been created to deal with the high levels of suicide in the UK, and to help remove the stigma that still surrounds suicide. Around 4,500 people take their own lives each year in England, and suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 45, according to Government figures.
